ServiceMaster Commercial Services of York County Sponsors Kick It to Cancer Team in New Cumberland, PA

October 8th, 2015 · No Comments

When we say “carpets”, you say… “cancer research”? Ok, so perhaps carpet cleaning and cancer research don’t typically come to mind at once, but this instance goes to show that ServiceMaster Commercial Services of York County is more than just a commercial cleaning company. We are truly part of our community, and we believe that cancer has an impact on everyone is one way or another. This is why we chose to sponsor the Williams Grove National Open Kick-It to Cancer event in New Cumberland, PA on October 2, 2015.

Kick-It to Cancer is a volunteer movement with goal to cure cancer by raising money through locally-organized kickball games across the nation. The money raised by Kick-It teams is directed specifically toward research for children’s cancers because 13,500 kids are diagnosed with cancer each year, yet the causes of childhood cancers are largely unknown and unpreventable. Despite this, pediatric cancer research receives only 4% of U.S. federal funding for R&D in the pharmaceutical industry while adult cancer research get nearly 60% of that funding, according to facts from Kick-It.

Even though the racing community at Williams Grove Speedway has been participating in Kick-It for years, this year’s kickball games almost didn’t happen. New rules stipulated that insurance must be purchased, meaning that additional $300 were needed to open the event. Since we are already very involved local sprint car racing community, ServiceMaster Commercial Services of York County took on this purchase so the kickball tournament could go on as planned.

The tournament was a blast for everyone who attended, and the 16 teams raised a total of $11, 973. At ServiceMaster Commercial Services of York County, we’re proud to have promoted such a good cause and had a lot of fun doing it too! But since the Williams Grove Kick-It event is over, we’re going back to business as usual, which for us means providing carpet cleaning and janitorial services for commercial buildings in York and Lancaster counties. However, there’s always next year!
